The policy of this school library is to provide a wide range of learning resources that promote literacy and support the curriculum at varying levels of difficulty and points of view to meet the needs of students and staff. Responsibilities for actual selection of school library materials shall rest with the certified school library media specialist(s) who will work cooperatively with staff members and students to interpret and guide the application of the policy in making day-to-day selections. The CDO High School Librarian(s) assume(s) final responsibility for the selection of materials. Materials shall be chosen by the librarian(s) alone and in cooperation with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
Criteria for Selection
Materials selected for inclusion in the collection of the CDO High School Library shall satisfy the following: Materials shall be chosen to enrich and support the curriculum and educational, college/career preparatory, emotional, and recreational needs of the users for its immediate needs and its needs in the immediate future. Materials shall meet high standards of quality in: -accuracy and currency of information -arrangement and organization -author’s, artist’s, or publisher’s qualifications and/or reputation -literary style -physical format/condition of item/value(price) -treatment of subject Materials shall be appropriate for the subject area and for the age, emotional development, ability level, learning styles, and social development of CDO High School students Materials shall represent differing viewpoints of controversial issues so that users may be motivated to engage in critical analysis of such issues, to explore their own beliefs, attitudes, and behavior, and to make intelligent judgments in their every day lives Materials shall be chosen with relation to the existing collection and other materials on the subject and/or that support the Arizona State Standards Materials that are nominated/received awards or are recognized on pertinent lists or indexes shall be included Materials that are a continuation of a series shall be chosen to supplement the existing series
